Greater Summerside Chamber of Commerce

President's Message

Established in 1900, the Greater Summerside Chamber of Commerce is a non-profit voluntary organization. It is an association of progressive business and professional leaders of the community. The united voice of members, expressed through the Chamber, has a positive impact in promoting the economic and social welfare of the Greater Summerside Area.

The Chamber must play a leadership role in maintaining public awareness of the interdependency between high levels of employment and economic stability in the community. The Chamber must also relate the availability and suitability of educational and training programs to the need for trained employees.

Our objectives are:

  1. To promote and improve trade and commerce as well as the economic, civic and social welfare of the area it serves;
  2. To advise or make recommendations to all levels of government on any matters affecting the objective of the Chamber;
  3. To make available, where possible, sources of information to its members respecting general regulation affecting business and industry in the Greater Summerside area;
  4. To exchange information with other Chamber of Commerce, Boards of Trade and other organizations;
  5. To secure to its members the benefits of cooperation and the furtherance of their legitimate pursuits;
  6. To provide leadership which will give businesses a strong collective voice;
  7. To provide a forum through which the business community initiates and promotes objectives for the economic and social progress of the area which it serves;
  8. To express effectively the views of the business community on matters of local, regional or national importance; and
  9. To conduct promotional, fundraising and other activities as deemed appropriate by the Board.

This is going to be an exciting and very busy year for the Greater Summerside Chamber of Commerce. The current economic conditions have presented many challenges for our members. A challenge, however, is just another form of opportunity, and we will work hard this year to assist our members to seek out and capitalize on these opportunities.

Sincerely,

Rudy Smith, President
Greater Summerside Chamber of Commerce
